The Schmulowitz Collection of Wit & Humor (SCOWAH) is the largest collection of its kind in a public library; with more than 20,000 volumes and 160 periodicals in thirty-five languages and dialects, SCOWAH has something humorous for everyone, even polar bears. The English language collection is accessible through the online catalog, with foreign language titles accessible through a combination of online catalog and card catalog. To browse materials in the online catalog, search under the call number SCOWAH.
A critical part of our work here in the Book Arts & Special Collections Center and the San Francisco History Center is to bring our collections to light; this happens with great cataloging and reference service that enables you to find the materials you're looking for, as well as some that you might find serendipitously. The San Francisco Public Library: we're here to serve you.
Happy Holidays from all of us!
