Free Screening of Remembering Playland

Please join us on Tuesday, November 30 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. for a screening of Tom Wyrsch's Remembering Playland, a full-length documentary about San Francisco's legendary amusement park, Playland at the Beach, that was located next to Ocean Beach and torn down in 1972. The screening will be in the Koret Auditorium, in the lower level of the Main Library, San Francisco Public Library, at 100 Larkin Street. Q & A with the filmmaker Tom Wyrsch and local Playland historian Marvin Gold to follow.

  1. In 1970, when I heard that Playland was to be razed soon, I went to my parents' home 6 blocks away, "rescued" a box of prize tickets collected over the years, won from Ski Ball, we redeemed them at the merchandise stand. Got my parents a brand new set of pots & pans with the tickets.

  2. Anon, I still love Skee-Ball and play whenever I find it! Most "modern" Skee-Ball lanes are far shorter, no?

  3. I am unable to make this due to work. I see in the catalog (http://sflib1.sfpl.org/record=b2356453~S1) that the video is for library use only.

    Is the video available to watch on in the 6th floor History Center?

    Yup, you can watch 'Remembering Playland' here in the SF History Center. We're open Tu-Th 10a-6p, Fr Noon-6p, Sa 10a-6p, Su Noon-5p.

    You might want to call ahead of time to make sure the equipment isn't in use, since we only have one DVD player.
