It Came From the (Photo) Morgue!

Heading back to school? It's always good to be aware of the dress code.

Caption:

Torrance, CA -- Oct. 1, 1964
Sheila Warren, a 14 year old model, went to school clad in boots, a leopard-spot blouse and culottes.
"Culottes?" said her home-room teacher, and called in the brass.
Vice principal Clara Vironda thumbed through the school's mimeographed circular of "Clothes Inappropriate for School Wear."
And there were culottes - "inappropriate because they are active sports apparel."
So Sheila, who came to school in high fashion, went home in high dudgeon - and early. By request. Miss Vironda sent her.

The Library owns the photo morgue of the San Francisco News-Call Bulletin, a daily newspaper that covered the time period from the 1920’s to 1965. Much of the San Francisco History Collection comes from the News-Call Bulletin morgue. However, the morgue also includes national and international subjects that have not been digitized or cataloged.
